OREANDA-NEWS The Central Bank of Turkey has decided to lower the discount rate. This was reported by TASS.
The corresponding figure has been reduced from 43 percent to 40.5 percent. Prior to that, the rate was reduced from 46 percent to 43 percent at the end of July. In addition, on September 11, the Turkish regulator lowered the interest rate on one-day loans from 46 percent to 43.5 percent. The one-day borrowing rate also went down. It has shifted from 41.5 to 39 percent.
As the central bank emphasized, the dynamics of core inflation slowed down in August, while demand conditions remained disinflationary.
At the end of April, the Turkish regulator unexpectedly raised the key rate to 46 percent, which turned out to be a complete surprise for experts who had predicted its retention at 42.5 percent. The main reason for the decision, despite the slowdown in inflation, was global instability and events in the financial markets. In particular, it was about the trade war that Washington had unleashed. In March 2024, the rate reached 50 percent, but began to fall in December.
