OREANDA-NEWS Due to the robbery on October 19, the Louvre suffered damage in the amount of 88 million euros. These results of calculations were presented on the air of the RTL radio station by the prosecutor of Paris, Laure Beco.
The damage was assessed by Louvre Director Laurence de Car. "The amount is impressive, but it is in no way comparable to the damage done historically," the prosecutor noted.
She added that if the robbers tried to melt down the stolen jewelry, they would not be able to get such a large sum for their sale.
According to Beko, about 100 investigators are involved in the investigation. It is also possible that new defendants will appear in the case, who could have been part of the team of four intruders who entered the museum or participated in the preparation of the robbery.
Earlier, art critic Sergei Podstanitsky suggested the fate of the jewels stolen from the Louvre. He believes that precious stones will be taken out of the exhibits and sold for 50-70 percent of the cost.
