OREANDA-NEWS One of the world's largest economies, Japan, is facing a sharp drop in real wages. This was reported by the Kyodo news agency.
It turned out that the corresponding indicator decreased by 2.9 percent in May, compared with last year's data. Moreover, it was the fifth monthly decline in a row and the sharpest drop in almost two years. As noted, salary growth continued to lag behind inflation. The nominal salary increased by a percentage, to two thousand US dollars.
At the same time, consumer prices increased by four percent in May due to rising prices for rice and other food products. In addition, the well-being of Japanese people was affected by a decrease in special incomes, including premiums and transportation surcharges, which fell by 18.7 percent.
Earlier it was reported that Japan fears the worst-case economic scenario if Tokyo fails to reach an agreement with Washington on the issue of duties. The fact is that the head of the White House, Donald Trump, has already threatened this Asian country with 30-35 percent duties and, in addition, called it a very tough and spoiled trading partner.
