OREANDA-NEWS The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has disqualified the 14th world champion Vladimir Kramnik for one year for violating the code of ethics due to his statements regarding the deceased American Daniel Naroditsky, according to the FIDE website.
In November, FIDE filed a complaint against Kramnik with the ethics commission in connection with his statements about Naroditsky. Naroditsky's death became known on October 20, he died at the age of 29. In 2024, Kramnik accused Naroditsky of cheating in online chess. After the news of the American's death, some users on social media accused Kramnik of exerting psychological pressure on Naroditsky, which, in their opinion, led to the death of the chess player.
The Ethics Commission imposed a two-year ban on Kramnik from participating in chess competitions. The last 12 months are conditional with a probation period of three years, that is, the disqualification is one year, provided there are no further violations. In addition, Kramnik was given 12 months of unpaid work for the benefit of the chess community as an additional sanction. The decision can be appealed within 21 days.
