OREANDA-NEWS FIFA's revenue from the sale of tickets and hospitality services for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico amounted to about $5 billion, The Times reports.

The amount is a record for the tournament, it is more than five times higher than the corresponding figures for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and significantly exceeds the budget forecast ($3.3 billion).

The increase is due to an increase in the number of matches at the tournament (104 instead of 64), the introduction of a dynamic pricing policy, as well as a 30% FIFA commission on ticket resale on its own official platform. The latter was made possible by US legislation allowing the secondary sale of tickets for sporting events.

However, the pricing policy has attracted criticism. For example, in England, ticket prices were called scandalous and extortionate.

It is noted that the organizers sold more than 100 thousand tickets at a price of $ 60.

The World Championships in the USA, Canada and Mexico were held from June 11 to July 19 this year with the participation of a record number of national teams – 48. The Spanish national team won gold, Argentina won silver, and England won bronze.
