OREANDA-NEWS. The men's sprint race at the second stage of the Biathlon World Cup ended in Kontiolahti. The victory was won by the Norwegian Tarjei Be, who did not make a single mistake. He covered the ten-kilometer distance in 24 minutes 03.7 seconds.

The second place was taken by German Arnd Peiffer, 13.9 seconds behind the leader. He also covered all targets. The top three were closed by Johannes Be (29.4; 1 penalty).

The best of the Russians was Matvey Eliseev, who is on the 33rd line. He did not make a single mistake, but lost 1 minute 29.7 seconds to the winner.

Alexander Loginov, Eduard Latypov, Anton Babikov, Petr Pashchenko and Semyon Suchilov took 34th, 46th, 55th, 72nd and 85th places, respectively.

The women's sprint race will take place later Thursday in Kontiolahti.

Before the start of the World Cup, which was held in Kontiolahti on November 28-29, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced positive tests for coronavirus in the Russian national team. Later it became known that Babikov and three other team members had passed positive tests. On November 26, quarantine was lifted from the Russian national team, only Babikov and Yevgeny Garanichev, who lived in the same room, missed the starting stage.
