OREANDA-NEWS Fishermen have caught a giant devil catfish weighing 170 kilograms in the Indian state of Odisha. This is reported by Kalinga TV.
A huge fish was caught in the Bramkhani River near the town of Kanikha. It took four or five people to raise an unusual catch.
It was possible to catch such a large individual due to flood waters that entered the reservoir after the opening of the sluices at the Rengali dam. Local fishermen hope that they will be able to catch several more large fish in these waters.
Giant devil catfish, also called gongchi, are found in India, Nepal and Bangladesh, grow up to two meters in length and feed on shrimp or fish. There are unconfirmed cases of people becoming victims of the Gongcha. In 1998, two people were abducted by a giant fish in India, and in Nepal in 2007. All three attacks are attributed to a 90-kilogram man-eating catfish.
Earlier it was reported that fishermen caught a rare giant catfish in Kazan on the Kama River. The catfish weighed 79 kilograms. At the same time, its length reached 225 centimeters. Men who managed to catch unusual fish in Tatarstan admitted that such giants are very rare.
