OREANDA-NEWS The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is preparing a list of shipyards that it plans to put up for sale in the future. This was announced on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) by the head of VTB Bank, Chairman of the Board of Directors of USC Andrey Kostin, reports RBC.
According to him, the plan is in the process of formation, besides, as long as there are any orders at the enterprises, they cannot be closed. At the same time, the banker stressed that the industry needs a major restructuring.
Kostin cited the example of the Sevastopol plant, built back in the 18th century, where about 200 people remained after cuts, but there were no orders and "they are unlikely to come." The list of such assets will soon be handed over to the government, and it will also be reported to the president.
USC was established in 2007 to unite shipbuilding plants across the country under one wing. In 2023, it was transferred under the management of VTB. According to the audit results, Kostin noted that the corporation's work over the past ten years has been built on the principle of a pyramid scheme.
He explained that USC's activities had created a huge financial hole, concluded government contracts were unprofitable, fixed assets were in a critically outdated state, and a deep technological lag was obvious.
In August, it became known that USC wants to cut 70 percent of Khabarovsk Shipbuilding Plant (KHSZ) employees by October 31, as the company has no orders. After that, the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Dmitry Demeshin, announced that the region would buy out KHSZ from USC for a symbolic ruble. The official promised to prevent staff cuts and to find new orders for the shipyard.
