OREANDA-NEWS  A Russian tourist who ignored warning red flags on Surin Beach on the Thai resort island of Phuket drowned, unable to cope with the undercurrent, reports Phuket News.

Beach rescuers pulled the man ashore, already without a pulse and breathing. All attempts to resuscitate him were in vain, the portal reports. According to the publication, the deceased Russian came to Phuket on vacation with his family and lived in a hotel near Surin Beach. Strong undercurrents directed from the coast are not uncommon for the rainy season in Phuket, especially on its west coast, the newspaper writes, citing rescuers and provincial authorities. Therefore, even on beaches where bathing is allowed, it is recommended to swim along the shore, and not perpendicular to it, the portal says.

The Russian became the fifth swimmer who drowned in the sea off the western coast of Phuket in the last week. Since August 1, two Indian citizens, one Senegalese citizen and one Thai citizen have drowned there, who drowned near Surin Beach just a few hours before the Russian.
