OREANDA-NEWS  On September 8, at the initiative of French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, a vote of confidence in the government will be held in the French National Assembly, BFM TV reported on Monday.

"I have requested permission from the president to hold an extraordinary session of parliament (to vote on confidence in the government)," Bayrou announced.

French President Emmanuel Macron has agreed, according to the newspaper "Figaro".

To avoid the resignation of the government, it is necessary to obtain an absolute majority of votes in support.

Meanwhile, the leader of the far-right National Unification party, Jordan Bardella, said that his party would not support the Bayrou government. The National Association will never trust a government whose decisions make the French population suffer," Bardella wrote on the social network X.

The far-left Unconquered France Party, the Socialist Party, the French Communist Party and the Green Party have expressed the same intention.

"Parliamentarians from the party of Unconquered France will vote on September 8 for the resignation of the government," party coordinator Manuel Bompard wrote on the social network X.

Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party of France, in turn, noted that "the support of the government by members of the socialist Party is unthinkable."

"It will be necessary to overthrow the government on September 8," Leon Defontaine, a representative of the French Communist Party, wrote on the social network X.

Marine Tondelier, National Secretary of the Green Party, also said that her party's deputies would vote against the government.

Earlier, Bayrou presented a budget plan for 2026, which provides for tax increases and spending cuts of 44 billion euros, including cuts in pensions and social benefits, as well as a "solidarity contribution" from the rich. To reduce the deficit, he also proposed canceling two days off: on the Monday after Easter and on Victory Day in Europe on May 8.
