OREANDA-NEWS  The European aerospace corporation Airbus will cut more than 2,000 jobs in the Defense and Space division. The bulk of the cuts will be in Germany, France, the UK and Spain, the company announced.

In October, Airbus warned that it was planning to change the organizational structure of the division, taking into account the preservation of a difficult business environment, especially in the space segment.

On December 5, the company announced that the cuts would affect 2,043 employees, or about 5% of the division's staff. More than half of the layoffs - 1,128 positions - will be accounted for by the space segment.

Airbus plans to complete them by mid-2026. Almost all planned reductions will affect management support functions.

In October, the company noted that the number of Defense and Space staff could be reduced by 2.5 thousand employees.

In the second quarter of 2024, Airbus write-offs related to the postponement of a number of programs of the defense and space division amounted to 989 million euros.

Since the beginning of 2024, the capitalization of Airbus has grown by 10.2%.
