OREANDA-NEWS   A powerful earthquake has occurred in the Pacific Ocean near the Kuril Islands. What happened in the Russian region is described on the official website of the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service, which belongs to the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Residents of Kamchatka felt the tremors at 18:45 local time (9:45 Moscow time). The earthquake was located at a depth of 42 kilometers and at a distance of 189 kilometers from North Kurilsk.

On February 6, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred in Turkey — the strongest on the territory of the country since 1939. The epicenter of the cataclysm was the area in the province of Kahramanmarash in the south of the country. In the afternoon, a new earthquake of magnitude 7.7 was recorded in the central part of the country. According to the latest data from the emergency Management, 3381 people were killed, more than 20.4 thousand were injured.
