OREANDA-NEWS  The UK rejected the idea of deploying a large peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine, but promised to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. This is reported by The Times.

"The British military leadership rejected the idea of deploying a 30,000-strong contingent to protect the ports and cities of Ukraine," the report said.

It is noted that some European countries considered it too risky to send a large number of troops and could not allocate the necessary resources for this. According to the newspaper, the new UK strategy includes ensuring the security of Western Ukraine from the air, support in the training of the Ukrainian military, as well as the clearance of the Black Sea.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that London was preparing a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. "We are ready, if necessary, to increase pressure on Russia, especially in the economic sphere, through sanctions and broader measures. The effect of the measures is obvious, the UK is preparing the next package of tough sanctions," the politician said.
