OREANDA-NEWS China's plan to sink the US aircraft carrier can be described in one word — DF-21D. This is what the National Security Journal (NSJ) columnist writes about. Isaac Seitz.
The author recalled that the DF-21D solid-fuel ballistic missile, which develops a speed of Mach 10, is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 1,500 to 2,000 kilometers, which "allows it to cover critical maritime zones, including the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and parts of the Philippine Sea."
"The missile is equipped with a conventional high-explosive fragmentation warhead, probably weighing about 600 kilograms, designed to disable an aircraft carrier rather than sink it. A direct hit can seriously damage the flight deck, radar systems or the propulsion system of an aircraft carrier, disabling it for a long time," the publication says.
