OREANDA-NEWS In 2022, the container market of Russia by the end of 2022 decreased by 15.9% compared to 2021, to about 5.492 million TEU, the FESCO transport group told reporters.

Imports decreased by 12%, to 2,107 million TEU, exports - by 25%, to 1,529 million TEU, transit - by 23%, to 750 thousand TEU. Domestic shipments remained at the level of the previous year - 1.105 million TEU.

In December, the country's container market decreased by 19% year-on-year, to 486.3 thousand TEU.

"Import shipments increased by 9.1% in December. Transshipment through the ports of the Far East increased by 5%, infrastructure restrictions became a limiting factor for further growth. Exports decreased by 39% compared to the same month in 2021, while shipments through the ports of the Far East showed a key increase," the group said.

"Transit traffic decreased by 28%. The only transit market with positive dynamics remains the Asia - Central Asia direction due to transportation from South Korea to Uzbekistan. Domestic transportation decreased by 6% in December," FESCO added.

The container market of Russia includes foreign trade and transit container turnover of Russian ports, foreign trade and transit container turnover of land crossings on the Russian Railways network, domestic container transportation on the Russian Railways network and coastal transportation.
