OREANDA-NEWS In Kaliningrad, four men were convicted of trafficking amber. About this was reported in the press service of the regional court.

As the court found, four local residents knew people who were engaged in illegal amber mining. They decided to resell it. In the period from January 2020 to December 2022, they purchased more than 14.5 tons of raw amber, as well as about 17 kilograms of processed stone for a total amount of more than 96 million rubles for further transportation and sale.

They were found guilty under Article 191 ("Illegal trafficking in amber, jade or other semiprecious stones, precious metals, precious stones or pearls") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendants pleaded not guilty. According to them, they believed that they were acquiring amber obtained legally. The court sentenced them to terms from four years and four months to four years and nine months in a penal colony, as well as fines from 600 to 900 thousand rubles. In addition, amber, equipment and garages where amber was stored were seized by the state.
