OREANDA-NEWS  Ships of the German Navy may be equipped with combat lasers by 2029. The new installations will make it possible to shoot down drones, Breaking Defense writes.

Rheinmetall and MBDA, which have been working on the installation for ten years, announced the completion of tests at sea. A demonstration sample of the anti-drone laser was handed over to the government for further testing at the Laser Examination Center.

"The successful tests conducted on the Saxony frigate proved for the first time in Europe the demonstrator's tracking ability, efficiency and accuracy in real—world operating conditions," the developers said.

During the tests, the development passed more than a hundred live firing tests and many target tracking tests. According to the newspaper, the technology has shown high accuracy and reaction speed during the fight against drones.
