OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, there is a surge in the diagnosis of "obesity" in children, said pediatric endocrinologist Oksana Pilipenko. She shared the data on the website of the Ministry of Health of the Novosibirsk region.
According to Pilipenko, 10 percent of children in Russia are obese, and about 13 percent are overweight. She noted that there were more such diagnoses after the coronavirus pandemic, which caused many to experience stress and move less. The doctor added that overweight can appear due to psychological problems, genetic diseases and endocrine pathologies, as well as because of the example set by parents.
The head of the City Children's Center for Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders of the Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 1 added that the largest weight recorded in their patient was 228 kilograms. The teenager turned to doctors for help at the age of 16. "With this weight, the teenager was shown bariatric surgery. He was advised to apply for a disability," concluded Pilipenko.
