OREANDA-NEWS  Microsoft Corporation announced the termination of support for the Windows Mixed Reality platform. This is reported on the company's website.

Representatives of the company notified users that the virtual reality platform is "outdated and will be removed in a future version of Windows." In addition, the Mixed Reality Portal and Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR will be removed from operating systems, as well as product support will be closed.

Microsoft's virtual reality platform was positioned as a portal for games, applications and other opportunities in the space of alternative reality. According to The Verge journalists, the only supported product of the ecosystem is the HoloLens 2 wireless mixed reality glasses. However, they are aimed at the corporate sector, and there is also no information about the future version of the device.

Windows Mixed Reality was launched in 2017. As part of the project, the corporation has introduced several headsets until 2021. According to journalists, Microsoft was trying to compete in the market with manufacturers such as HTC and Oculus.

In early December, insiders reported that the next version of Microsoft's operating system will be released in mid-2024. One of the features of Windows 12 will be deep integration with AI.
