OREANDA-NEWS On the night of Friday, December 26, the Moscow region was covered with snow. Almost a third of the monthly precipitation rate fell in the region at night, said Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, RIA Novosti reports.
Heavy snowfall began in the capital on Thursday, December 25, and continues to this day. Against this background, precipitation meters at the weather stations of VDNKh, Tushino, Baltschuga and Moscow State University recorded nine millimeters of precipitation each, which is 18 percent of the norm for the month, the forecaster explained.
In the Moscow region, the city of Klin became the leader in precipitation — 14 millimeters of snow fell there, or 30 percent of the monthly precipitation rate. Heavy snowfalls also turned out to be in Dolgoprudny (13 millimeters), Volokolamsk and Dmitrov (10 millimeters each).
According to preliminary data, the height of the snow cover in the Moscow region reaches eight centimeters. According to forecasts of Tishkovets, the snow will continue to fall during the day, but it will not be so heavy. Up to four millimeters of precipitation will fall during the day.
Earlier, the chief specialist of the Meteonovosti portal, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, predicted that by the New Year, the height of snowdrifts in Moscow could grow to 13-14 centimeters.
