OREANDA-NEWS  The bill on new sanctions against Russia risks being blocked in the US House of Representatives due to lawmakers' concerns about the broad powers in the matter of duties that it grants to US President Donald Trump, Reuters reports, citing congressional sources and trade policy experts.

"The bill on sanctions against Russia faces a difficult path in Congress, as Democrats and some Republicans express concern about the new trade powers that the document will grant to President Donald Trump," the agency writes.

Influential Democrats of the relevant trade committees of the Senate and House of Representatives, Ron Wyden and Richard Neal, said that the current version of the bill is a "recipe for chaos and higher duties" that threatens to spur inflation in the United States, according to the publication.

In turn, experts and diplomats, as the agency notes, warn that the document gives Trump the unprecedented right to impose duties against entire states. In their opinion, this will create a harsh instrument of pressure on bilateral economic relations and may undermine the work of the international sanctions coalition.

According to Mayur Patel, a former Republican congressional staffer quoted by Reuters, the bill is unlikely to be passed by the House of Representatives this year due to the upcoming elections and lingering doubts among Republicans themselves about the scale of Trump's tariffs.

Earlier, during the second procedural vote, the US Senate supported the transition to consideration of the bill by a majority vote.
