OREANDA-NEWS The Kondaneft oil production company, part of the Rosneft oil company, has released more than 1.3 million Siberian sturgeon fry into the Irtysh River.

The Siberian sturgeon is listed in the Red Book of Russia and is a particularly valuable representative of the ichthyofauna. The restoration of its population is important for maintaining the ecological balance in the region. The release of juveniles was carried out in the water area of the Irtysh, one of the largest rivers in Western Siberia.

Successful adaptation and subsequent reproduction of the sturgeon in the long term will contribute to the growth of its numbers in its natural habitat and the preservation of the natural heritage of Yugra.

The large-scale action was the next step of the company's annual environmental program aimed at replenishing fish resources and maintaining ecological balance. Last year, her priority was the reproduction of pelage, a species of particular importance for the traditional fishing and lifestyle of the indigenous peoples of the region.
