OREANDA-NEWS   In 2025, veterinary clinics in Russia received three times fewer vaccines for cats and dogs. This is reported by the Izvestia newspaper with reference to a letter from the National Veterinary Chamber Association (NVP) to the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Due to the sharp drop in supplies, doctors fear that this will lead to an increase in cases of infection of pets, and then people.

"Currently, 200-300 animals are on the waiting list for vaccination in some clinics, and 10-20 doses are being delivered," the appeal says. "Distribution companies are announcing a two— to three-fold reduction in the supply of immunobiological drugs from manufacturers."

Manufacturers, importers and interested agencies are asked to work out a solution as quickly as possible. The Rosselkhoznadzor has already promised to hold a video conference with the involvement of all manufacturers of vaccines for dogs and cats to understand the situation. The Ministry of Agriculture called the situation with providing the domestic market with veterinary medicines stable and stressed that the most popular foreign drugs have domestic analogues. The ministry also recalled that a number of imported vaccines have not been supplied since 2022.

At the beginning of the year, Russians were warned about the risk of popular pet food disappearing from store shelves. It was about the products of the Whiskas, Chappi and Pedigree brands, as well as Felix, Pro Plan, Gourmet and Darling. The reason for such concerns was the temporary ban on the import of livestock products from European countries into the Russian Federation. However, Mars, which owns the production and release rights, stated that it had managed to purchase various additives in sufficient volume.
