OREANDA-NEWS. Russia will send to Mexico up to 2 thousand doses of the coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

This was reported by El Universal newspaper, citing Mexican Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard. According to the politician, the authorities of Russia and Mexico have already conducted negotiations on this issue. Ebrard noted that the drug will arrive in the country in September and called it “very good news.”

On his Twitter page, the Foreign Secretary informed that on August 19 he met with the Russian Ambassador to Mexico, Viktor Koronelli. “I have expressed an interest in conducting a third phase [of research] so that the vaccine is available in Mexico as early as possible,” he wrote.

On August 17, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reported that he had discussed the purchase of the medicine with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

According to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University, 537,000 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Mexico; it is in seventh place in the world for this indicator. 58.4 thousand people died.
