OREANDA-NEWS The Avacha volcano, in the event of an eruption, poses a danger to the population of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The severity of the consequences of the disaster for local residents was assessed by scientists interviewed kp.ru .

According to Danila Chebrov, director of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the recent magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Kamchatka "awakened" several dormant volcanoes, which did not coincide with his own forecast. "After the earthquake, I said that nothing serious would happen to volcanoes. But they began to show signs of life one by one, and it is not known what else could be. If Avachinsky starts to erupt, there will be a definite threat to the city," the seismologist noted. At the same time, he added that there would be no catastrophe in the event of its eruption. "There is not such an intensity of events," Chebrov explained.

As for Kamchatka airports, they are currently operating normally. Konstantin Ryabinkin, a researcher at the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that a group of his colleagues is constantly monitoring the movement of ash — both wind direction and altitude. If there are areas within the route where ash can be blown away by the wind, experts give recommendations to the aviation services so that they adjust the routes.

The day before, Russians were warned about the dangerous activity of four volcanoes in Kamchatka — Klyuchevsky, Krasheninnikov, Mutnovsky and Kambalny.
