OREANDA-NEWS  It became known about the dispatch of the atomic icebreaker Siberia by Rosatom to the Gulf of Finland. This is necessary to ensure icebreaking operations against the background of the freezing of the bay, according to the press service of the nuclear state corporation.

It is noted that for the first time in several years, the Gulf of Finland began to freeze: it is 80 percent covered with ice, the thickness of which reaches 40 centimeters.

"The weather forecast is disappointing. There is a real threat to shipping. For the first time in many years, the Ministry of Transport has asked Rosatom to send a nuclear icebreaker to the Gulf of Finland. We couldn't help but meet them halfway," the press service said.

Earlier, near St. Petersburg, an ice floe with fishermen was swept into the Gulf of Finland.

Earlier, new marine animals were spotted in the Gulf of Finland.
