The situation in the coal industry is deteriorating, said the deputy head of the Ministry of Energy

OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, 51 coal enterprises have been closed or are on the verge of closure, said Dmitry Islamov, deputy head of the Ministry of Energy.
"In the so—called red zone, these are enterprises that have been stopped or are on the verge of shutting down, as of today there are 51 enterprises, that is, mines and mines," he said.
Islamov added that the situation in the coal industry is deteriorating. Last year, the losses amounted to 112.6 billion rubles.
According to the latest data from the ministry, as of January 1, 2024, 179 enterprises were mining coal in Russia.
At the end of May, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved measures to support the industry. They include deferral of mineral extraction tax and insurance premiums until December 1, as well as the opportunity for companies with a high debt burden to restructure credit debt.
Targeted measures are also in place: compensation of 12.8% of the tariff for coal exports to the northwest and south is available for Siberian enterprises. Individual companies may receive subsidies to compensate for part of the logistical costs of long-range exports.
