OREANDA-NEWS The number of Russian tourists stranded in Thailand due to the cancellation of flights in the Middle East may reach 10,000 people, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia estimates.
"There may currently be about 10,000 organized and independent tourists in Thailand with return tickets for flights with connections in Middle Eastern countries. Due to the cancellation of most of these flights, tourists are forced to stay late or fly through third countries," the report says.
According to ATOR, at least 800 of the tourists stranded in Thailand are clients of tour operators. Their number is decreasing as tourists gradually leave the country.
Tour operators have extended hotel stays for tourists at their own expense and are looking for options for return transportation. Some tourists buy return tickets on their own and try to fly through China or the CIS countries.
"The most difficult situation is with Air Arabia passengers. This airline will have no commercial flights until March 22. There is also no information on export yet," the message says.
Since February 28, the skies of 10 countries in the Middle East have been closed to flights due to the military conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. Transit tourists who find themselves in third countries have experienced the greatest difficulties in connection with the suspension of flights.
