OREANDA-NEWS The Verkhovna Rada (the Ukrainian Parliament) has returned duties and value added tax (VAT) on the import of goods, including cars, from July 1, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, deputy head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, said on his Telegram channel.

The deputies supported the corresponding government bill with 234 votes, while the required quantity is 226, he noted. Earlier, the profile committee recommended the Rada to support the government bill, although the deputies registered three alternative draft laws.

The government bill amends the Tax Code and other laws to refund all customs duties and VAT on imported goods, including cars. It also proposes to resume taxation, which was canceled earlier, for goods that are imported by a number of groups of single tax payers, since the budget loses on average about UAH 3 billion of import duties on this benefit per month.

From April 6, the Verkhovna Rada exempted the import of goods to Ukraine from import duties and VAT for single tax payers of the first and third groups, paying tax at a rate of 2% of turnover, and also established a simplified form of customs clearance. Also, the import of vehicles by citizens and subjects of the simplified system was completely exempted from taxation.

The official exchange rate as of June 21 is UAH 29.25/$1.
