OREANDA-NEWS Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed her refusal to shake hands with German Ambassador Alexander Graf Lambsdorff during a meeting on July 13.

"Yes, it is," the diplomat said, commenting on the German ambassador's statement.

On July 16, Lambsdorff said in an interview with Der Spiegel before leaving office that Zakharova refused to shake his hand at the beginning of the meeting when summoning a diplomat to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The Ambassador also described the atmosphere at such events as "rather cold."

Lambsdorff has served as the German Ambassador to Russia since 2023, and his new appointment is as Ambassador to Israel. Former Ambassador to China, Japan and Mexico Clemens von Goetze has been appointed as the new head of the representative office in Moscow.

Earlier, Zakharova commented on Lambsdorf's departure from the country with a phrase from Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita." A spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry accompanied a fragment of the video in which the diplomat answered questions from the press with a musical track of the scene of the ball at Satan's from the TV series of the same name.
