OREANDA-NEWS The American Boeing Starliner manned spacecraft will deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS) instead of the crew as part of the next mission, designated Starliner-1. This is reported by NASA.
According to the US Space Agency, the contract with the company on the manned spacecraft, concluded in 2014, will be changed. Now, as part of the upcoming Starliner-1 mission, which will take place no earlier than April 2026, the ship will carry out an unmanned cargo mission to the ISS. If successful, the ship's next flights to and from the station will be crewed. The last two Starliner missions to the ISS remain optional.
"NASA and Boeing are continuing to thoroughly test the Starliner propulsion system in preparation for two potential flights next year," said Steve Stitch, head of the commercial crew program at the American Space Agency.
As ArsTechnica reminds, initially the contract between NASA and Boeing assumed six manned Starliner missions for crew rotation to the ISS.
