OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2009. State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan has announced number of inhabitants in Azerbaijan as of January 1, 2009.

The Committee has informed that for 2008 the population of Azerbaijan grew by 100,000 (1.2%) and reached 8.73 million. Of them males made up 49% and females 51%. 1,027 females fell per every 1,000 males.

Average age of the population is 32 years, average life duration 72.4 years (men: 69.7 years; women: 75.1 years).

In 2008, 152,100 children were born (about 417,000 new-born a day), 53.9% of whom are boys and 46.1% - girls. There were 16,480 twins and 27 triplets among new-born children,” it was reported.

Birth rate per 1,000 people made 17.8 new-born versus 18 ones in 2007. On average, 2.3 children fall per woman.

The most popular names of boys were Ali, Murad, Magomed, Huseyn and Nikhad and the most popular names of girls Narmin, Fidan, Zokhra and Nuray.

Number of deceased people made 6.1% per 1,000 ones and reduced to 52,500 persons versus 53,700 ones in 2007.

In 2008 it was registered about 79,900 marriages (-1,900 marriages or 4.1%) versus 7,900 divorces (-400 divorces or 10%).
