OREANDA-NEWS. May 27, 2009. Upon initiative of Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis a high level working group is formed which will discuss short-term, medium-term and long-term development objectives of Latvia in order to successfully overcome the current economic situation and to fundamentally revise the structure and competitiveness of the national economy, reported the Official website mk.gov.lv.

Participants of the working group will contribute without any remuneration and they will be recognised European politicians, experts of finance and economics, banking sector experts and academicians. The first meeting of this group is scheduled for May 28.

The following persons have approved their participation: Vesa Vihriala, Under-Secretary, Economic Affairs, Finland, Sirkka Hamalainen, former head of the Bank of Finland and Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, Finland, Alain Madelin, former French Minister of Economy and Finance, Jeppe Christiansen, head of the biggest Danish pension fund „LOnmodtagernes Dyrtidsfond”, Leo Blaabjerg SOrensen, Advisor to Royal Unibrew, Denmark, Bert Rurup, former chairman of the German Council of Economic Advisors, curently Professor of Technische Universitat Darmstadt, Germany, Bengt Dennis, former head of Riksbank, currently Advisor to East Capital Investment Group, Sweden, Per Unckel, Governor of Stockholm County, Sweden, and Christian H.M. Ketels, Researcher of the Stockholm School of Economics and the Strategy and Competitiveness Institute of Harvard University, Sweden.

It is planned to discuss social aspects of the eco0nomy down-turn and measures aimed at economizing resources, instruments for stimulating the economy, and primary elements for enhancing competitiveness of the Latvian economy, as well as communication between the Government and the public.
