OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2007. The General Assembly of the International Union of Railways (Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer – UIC) will be holding its 70th Session at the Holiday Inn Sokolniki at Rusakovskaya Street, House 24 (nearest underground station is Sokolniki) in Moscow on 18 June 2007.

Taking part in the General Assembly will be Jay Prakash Batra, chairman of the UIC, Philippe Mellier, managing director of Alstom Transportation, Aad Veenman, CEO of Dutch Railways, Tadeusz Szozda, Chairman of the Organisation for Railway Cooperation, Hartmut Mehdorn managing director of Deutsche Bahn and Wolfgang Toelsner, Chief Operating Officer of Bombardier Corporation, as well as the managers of major companies and institutes involved in the rail sector from over 40 countries worldwide.

Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways, will give a presentation.

During the Assembly, a contract will be signed to create Eurasia Rail Logistics, a joint venture between Russian Railways, Deutsche Bahn and railway companies in Poland and Belarus.

The creation of Eurasia Rail Logistics is aimed at improving the coordination of its owners in optimising the transportation process in order to improve the quality of services and increase the volume of freight shipments along International Transport Corridor No. 2 between Berlin, Warsaw, Minsk, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.
