OREANDA-NEWS. On 11 March, Kaliningrad Railways, a regional division of Russian Railways, held talks with Jorg Siedenbiedel, the head of Deutsche Bahn in the CIS.

The two sides discussed a joint project for the rail ferry between Baltiysk in Russia and Sassnitz-Mukran in Germany.

In the two-and-a-half months since the ferry service between the Russian and German ports began operating in both directions, more than 400 rail wagons with various goods have been carried, which according to Jorg Siedenbiedel, had exceeded expectations. Siedenbiedel said that Germany had sent a large amount of cargo to Russia, including agricultural machinery, and noted that the real flow of goods from West to East via the port of Baltiysk now poses the question of increasing the number of ferry services from 1 to 2 per week.

The negotiations resulted in a recommendation by Siedenbiedel to change the ferry timetable.
