OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2008. The 1st International Forum (Exhibition and Congress) ATOMCON 2008 has set off at Expocenter, Moscow, today, June 25. The forum is being conducted under the aegis of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency and is supposed to show that Russia’s nuclear industry is open for cooperation and to deepen international cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Atomenergoprom OJSC and its subsidiaries — TVEL Corporation, Uranium Holding ARMZ and other companies – are taking an active part in the forum. On the first day, during the plenary session, chaired by Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko and Director of Atomenergoprom OJSC Vladimir Travin, the deputy director of Atomenergoprom OJSC Kirill Komarov made a report on the development of power machine building in Russia. The president of TVEL Corporation Yuri Olenin told the conferees about the prospects of modernization of nuclear fuel. Among the other rapporteurs were representatives of IAEA, WNA and foreign companies

It is the first time Russia is conducting such a specialized forum and it is expected to become the key nuclear event of the year.

Vice Premier of Russia Sergey Ivanov, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko, Head of Rostekhnadzor Konstantin Pulikovsky attended the opening ceremony.

Representatives of almost 500 companies from Russia and foreign countries (France, Germany) are taking part in the forum. Russia is represented by Atomenergoprom, Rosenergoatom Concern, Atomstroyexport, Power Machines, leading research companies. Among the foreign guests are Nuclear Power Corporation of India, China National Nuclear Corporation, Kazatomprom, AREVA and Alstom.

The forum will last till June 27.
