OREANDA-NEWS. On 02 September 2008 was announced, that an oncological centre of proton therapy is to be raised in Moscow.

“City Hall decided to build an oncological centre of proton therapy,” Moscow City Mayor Yuri Luzhkov told journalists on September 1.

Over 20 centres of proton therapy are currently working in the world. Three among them are located in Russia – at Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics in Moscow, at Institute of Nuclear Physics in St Petersburg and at United Institute of Nuclear Research in Dubna. But all these centres together can receive only around 1 per cent of those who need such a treatment in the country.
