OREANDA-NEWS. December 16, 2008. The labour market in Murmansk Oblast seems to react rather slowly to the expected difficulties. This was the conclusion after the last meeting of the recently established Murmansk Oblast government’s crisis commission.

The recently established Murmansk Oblast government’s crisis commission held its second meeting on Friday, and will according to governor Yury Yevdokimov from now on meet at least once a week.

Head of the regional Department for Employment, Vladimir Kolesnikov, gave the members of the commission a report on the situation on the labour market. The number of persons seeking work has sunken compared to last year, and employers have reported that 978 will be dismissed in course of the next three months. 267 of these will be redeployed. It seems that the labour market reacts rather slowly to the expected difficulties. Specialists believe that the real situation on the labour market will only be clear at the end of the first quarter of 2009.

According to a press release from the Murmansk regional government, the commission members decided to invite representatives from the Northern Fleet and Leningrad Military District to one of the next meetings, in order to get information on the ongoing reforms within the armed forces and upcoming dismissals from units and detachments in the region.

The crisis commission plans to keep strong control with food prices. From January 12, the prices will be monitored and the commission will take measures to keep them stabile.
