OREANDA-NEWS. On January 28, 2009 The business forum “Economic and Investment Potential of Tashkent” was held in Tashkent. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, Commerce and Industry Chamber, Tashkent city administration and the Uzinfoinvest agency, reported the Official website www.gov.uz.

The heads of ministries and departments, companies and joint ventures, Uzbek and foreign businessmen, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations participated in the forum.

Today, Tashkent, which will soon mark its 2200th anniversary, is a modern city with a developed transport and social infrastructure, and numerous enterprises of the basic economic sectors, scientific, educational and cultural establishments.

The city’s development showed notable growth in all directions last year. The volume of industrial production grew by 36.8% against 2007, foreign trade turnover by 15.5% and exports by 22.6%.

The industrial sector in Tashkent is represented by electronics, aircraft and machinery building, textile and other sectors. More than 30,000 enterprises of small business and private entrepreneurship function in the capital of Uzbekistan.

The investment climate and preferences provided to the foreign investors allow attracting investments on a long-term basis and participate in the programs of privatization and industrial modernization.

Annually, more than 50 specialized international trade fairs are held in the city, attracting numerous companies from many countries.

The business forum participants familiarized themselves with the large strategic investment projects, objects of state property for sale, as well as projects in small business.

The sections of the forum were devoted to sectors like energy, machinery building, textile industry, city infrastructure, small business and others.
