OREANDA-NEWS. On 16 February 2009 was announced, that on February 2, photo-exhibition "Wetlands – steppe oasis" took place in an exhibition hall of the Presidential Сulture Сentre of the RK in Astana. Exhibition exposed photos of animals, birds, plants and landscapes of wetlands of Kazakhstan. Special focus of an exposition was concentrated on the impacts of human activity in water basins of the country. Original foreshortenings based on natural perception, gave the visitors a chance to comprehend prospects of conservation of natural values of Kazakhstan as a whole.

Photo-exhibition was organized on World Wetlands Day annually marked on February, 2nd by the member countries of the Ramsar Convention. Kazakhstan joined the Convention in May, 2007, thus, taking an obligation to save globally significant wetlands on its territory.

This year World Wetlands DayҒs slogan "Upstream- downstream. Wetlands connect us all". All is interconnected in nature. We all depend on this or that river basin, and the our personal future is directly depending on how we treat water resources. The exhibition urged to draw attention of the public to the problem of conservation of biodiversity of water basins of Kazakhstan.

The Minister of Environment of the RK, representatives of the Forestry and Hunting Committee, protected areas, experts on water resources of Kazakhstan, representatives of the international organizations took part at the exhibition.
