OREANDA-NEWS  On 27 February was announced, that in January 2009, the company carried 635,900 passengers (including 7,800 passengers on charter flights), and performed 1,971 million passenger kilometers.

As compared to 2008, the number of passengers carried rose by 0.3 per cent (by 2,100 passengers), passenger turnover – by 2.6 per cent (by 50,800 thousand passenger kilometers); passenger carriage on international lines rose by 2.6 per cent (by 10,700 passengers), on domestic lines – went down by 3.8 per cent (by 8,600 passengers).

Passenger load factor in January was 62.5 per cent, which is 1.4 per cent lower than the last year’s figure. Payload amounted to 47.9 per cent – 1.5 per cent lower than in 2008.

Total hours flown by Aeroflot airplanes remained at the level of 2008.

The main cause of the performance decrease seen in certain spheres was the slump in demand for air transport services driven by the economic crisis, whose effects the company countered through its anti-crisis program implementation. The countermeasures included timetable optimization, which enabled the company to reach the generally positive results in passenger carriage.
