OREANDA-NEWS. May 15, 2009. Uzbekistan and South Korea have signed several bilateral accords, Uzbek TV's flagship Akhborot news programme reported.

The report said that the following documents had been signed as a result of bilateral talks held between Uzbek President Islom Karimov and visiting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, as well as the official delegations of the two countries the same day:

- a joint statement of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea;

- a memorandum between the Uzbekneftegaz (Uzbek oil and gas) national holding company and (South Korea's state-run) Korean National Oil Corp on jointly developing an investment block in Uzbekistan's Fargona Region;

- an agreement between the governments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea on the visa-free travel of citizens who hold diplomatic passports;

- a memorandum of understanding between the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade and the Korea Industrial Complex Corp. (KICOX) on joint measures to attract South Korean investments in the Navoiy Free Industrial Economic Zone;

- a credit agreement between the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Export-Import Bank of Korea on allocating a USD10 million preferential loan from the South Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund for the project for equipping Uzbekistan's Vohidov cardiology centre with modern medical facilities.
