OREANDA-NEWS. On 09 June 2009 was announced, that the annual 34th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank wrapped up in Ashgabat. An impressive set of documents on cooperation was signed as a result of the meeting. They include a credit agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the IDB for the purchase of 2 big oil tankers, and an agreement for a grant to fund a research project on the use of alternative energy sources.

As the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports, the results of the forums held in Ashgabat these days under the aegis of the IDB were announced at the closing session of the summit. In particular, the financial reports of all organizations forming the Islamic Development Bank were approved, and reports on the performance of special bank programs aimed at economic growth and social progress of countries in the Muslim world were delivered. There were also announced decisions on admitting a number of states to the structural units of the IDB.

Following the meeting, the President of the Islamic Development Bank and chairman of the Ashgabat meeting of the IDB Board of Governors held a press conference.

Speaking to journalists, head of the IDB Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani provided in-depth information about the decisions taken at the meeting of the IDB Board of Governors, in particular, on the financing of investment projects in construction, energy, transportation, telecommunications, health care and education spheres.
