On 19 June 2009 was announced, that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the heads of Russian companies taking part in celebrations on the occasion of inauguration of the first facilities in the national tourism zone on the shore of the Caspian Sea. The meeting took place on June 15 at "Vatanchy" hotel built on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

According to the official report, Igor Makarov, president of the International Group of Companies "ITERA", and the head of state agreed on the plans of joint work for the near future, discussed progress in implementing a number of major projects awarded to the holding in Turkmenistan. In particular, the company is implementing an investment project for the construction of luxury hotel in "Avaza". In the context of the traditional cooperation in the field of fuel and energy, the interlocutors exchanged views on the prospects of ITERA's joining the development of hydrocarbon fields in the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.

Prospects and possibilities of expanding bilateral partnership in the field of telecommunications, the introduction of innovative technologies was the topic of the meeting between the Turkmen leader and the President of the Joint Stock Financial Corporation "Systema" (Russia), Leonid Melamed. Leonid Melamed offered new proposals for cooperation, expressing interest in the company's participation in development projects in the national tourist zone "Avaza".

On the same day, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the chairman of Russian "Gazprom", Alexei Miller. The two sides exchanged views on the status and prospects of long-term cooperation in the gas sphere, and also discussed possibilities of cooperation in a number of other areas, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) said.
