OREANDA-NEWS. June 22, 2009. The agreement for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Belarus may be signed by this autumn, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said during a press-conference on Wednesday.

“We hope to sign the agreement by this autumn,” he said.

Russia and Belarus have already signed a relevant inter-governmental agreement. All necessary documents are ready.

“Now we are waiting for the Finance Ministry’s decision on relevant crediting,” Kiriyenko said.

The inter-governmental agreement was signed during the visit of a delegation of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation to Belarus in Jan 2009. The general contractor of the project is Atomstroyexport CJSC. The plant will consist of two reactors. The total cost of the project is estimated at 4bln EUR. The financing will be provided by both state and private sources.
 
The 1st unit is supposed to be launched in 2016, the 2nd one – in 2018. The site is situated in Ostrovets, Grodno region.
