OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2010. New rescue equipment was tested during survival training of pilots in Siberia and Far East. 25 military pilots ejected over the taiga regions, pretending as if their airplanes were shot down by the enemy.

Within three days of survival, the pilots had to get out of the taiga, having the emergency kit equipped with GLONASS. The positioning and navigation devices were turned on before landing.

The pilots had to reach a meeting point, providing the experts with the opportunity to verify suitability of the emergency kits, as well as psychological status of the pilots. The military men had to cover about 60km, marking special detection points, to make the rescue vehicle find them.
Decision about commissioning of the new  GLONASS’ed emergency kits in the Air Force is to be made after similar survival tests in summer.
