OREANDA-NEWS. May 17, 2010. Representatives of the administration of the Lubuskie Province (western Poland) and businessmen of the region are set to pay a visit to the Gomel Oblast on 18-21 May. Lubuskie officials and businessmen will take part in the 7th Gomel Economic Forum and Spring in Gomel expo.

During the visit the Polish side is expected to hold talks with the authorities of the Gomel Oblast, get familiar with the economic potential of the Belarusian region and the Gomel leading companies. The Polish delegation that has comprised, for the first time, representatives of the German companies which has their subsidiaries in the Lubuskie Province will also visit the Kalinkovichi Region. Moreover, Gomel will host businessmen of the Pomeranian and Silesian Provinces interested in establishing trading contacts with the Belarusian Steel Works in Zhlobin and the supplies of its products to Poland.

The Lubuskie Province and the Gomel Oblast signed an agreement on cooperation in December 2007. Since then the two regions have passed to the implementation of concrete projects in the trade, economic and investment areas. The two sides have been looking into a possibility of including Belarusian food products in the large trading networks of the Lubuskie Province with further possible advancement to other regions of Poland. Besides, the Lubuskie Province and the Gomel oblast have been studying a possibility for a joint participation in the programs that envisage Euro-fund resources including within the EU’s Eastern Partnership. The Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on its part, plans to put forward an initiative for a joint regional economic forum in Poland in autumn 2011. The issue will also be talked over during a visit of the Polish delegation to Gomel, Ruslan Yesin said.

The Gomel Economic Forum will be held for the seventh time. Its main goal is to inform businessmen on the Oblast’s investment potential and to attract foreign investors. The forum will include more than 100 investment projects slated for the implementation in the region. Representatives of 19 countries are set to partake in the forum.
