OREANDA-NEWS. December 20, 2010. The work done in the framework of the GTZ Programme “Supporting Legal and Judicial Reform in Central Asia” was summed up during the forum in Ashgabat. The forum organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) brought together deputies of the Mejlis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, the Institute of State and Law under the President of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Bar Association of Ashgabat and specialists of the international organisations accredited in Turkmenistan in the conference hall of the President Hotel.

As is known, the GTZ Programme “Supporting Legal and Judicial Reform in Central Asia” is implemented in Turkmenistan under the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the legal sector signed between the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan and the German Technical Cooperation.

In his opening remarks Lado Chanturia, GTZ Programme Manager noted that GTZ welcomed cooperation actively developed with the Government of Turkmenistan and expressed the willingness to maintain consistent partnership with the Turkmen state that made the resolute steps towards further democratic development. As is known, the policy of progressive reforms and wide international cooperation pursued by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov prioritizes the improvement of the national regulatory framework in compliance with international standards. Particular attention in this sphere is attached to the study of best international legislative and law enforcement practice.

Summing up the work done in 2010, the GTZ Programme Manager emphasized that a series of seminars and roundtables focusing on the exchange of experiences in the legal and judicial spheres had been conducted with the participation of foreign experts. The recommendations on some legislative acts had been drafted jointly with Turkmen specialists.

During the meeting specialists of the Mejlis, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, the Institute of State and Law under the President of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Justice and Supreme Court reported on the work carries out to implement the programme.

Focusing with satisfaction on fruitfulness of partnership, the meeting participants called for continuing the constructive dialogue on the lawmaking processes, including broad exchange of experiences and information.
