OREANDA-NEWS. November 15, 2011. Exports/imports volume at the port of Ust-Luga for the ten past months of 2011 jumped by 81.6 percent year-over-year, to 17.73 million tons, Ust-Luga Co. said Tuesday.

Vehicles transshipments at the port’s Yug-2 terminal more than doubled to103,031 cars. In October, the Ro-Ro facility handled16,054 vehicles.

Monthly traffic volume reached 1.99 million tons, a 45-percent gain on last year’s figure.

Port of Ust-Luga is located on Russia’s border with the EU. Now, Rosmorport is implementing the port’s dredging project to deepen the harbor and a 3.7km approach canal to 17.5 meters. Besides, Rosmorport plans to have the second approach canal completed by the end of this year. This will enable the port to accommodate 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers. Today, the port has six fully operating terminals (nine more to be commissioned soon). Overall, there will be 19 terminals commissioned by 2018. In 2010, Ust-Luga throughput was 11.8 million tons of cargoes and 65,521 imported vehicles. The port is expected to reach by 2018 the projected volume of over 180 million tons of different cargoes.
