OREANDA-NEWS. December 13, 2011. Conference on Transmashholding Production System (TPSYS) im implementation took place in Tver at the premises of Tver Carriage Works, which is a part of Transmashholding. Top managers of Holding and its business entities as well as its shareholders from Alstom Transport and OAO RZD took part in the conference.

Within the conference context, materials on Lean Manufacturing System implementation in main Holding sites were presented. The system practical deployment at TVZ production areas was demonstrated and the results of October and November audits were summarized. The audits had a goal to review the progress of Transmashholding Production System introduction at seven Holding sites.

Lean Manufacturing deployment contributed into stocks reduction by 33% on average, improvement of productive efficiency by 18%, and quality improvement by 22%, as well as areas reduction by 15%, which in its turn had a positive impact on each site economics.

Lean Manufacturing System implementation continues for two years now, from December 2009. This program is introduced as a part of Strategic Partnership Agreement with Alstom Transport, and with active participation of the French partner. The project in general is deployed at nine Holding business entities, four of them (KMT, Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant, Tsentrosvarmash and Kolomensky Zavod) joined the program in 2011.

Lean Manufacturing is a business and plant management philosophy. According to such philosophy, efforts and time applied to product by employees can be justified only when products gets some added value. On the contrary, when employee efforts and time do not bring any added value, they should be considered as inefficient.

The project priority objective at the current stage is deployment at pilot areas and getting sites employees involved into the process. The plan is to deploy the system at 25% of production areas both for direct and supporting function workshops and to involve more than 3700 employees in nine plants in the project by the end of the year. In the course of the next year the total number of production areas involved in the program implementation will be 50% of direct and supporting workshops area.
